Our client is a certified woman-owned small business established in 2015 in Columbia, MD. The Role
We are seeking a skilled Cloud Platform Engineer to play a significant role in the development of custom software components and the integration of open-source code. You will be tackling complex time series analysis problems using cutting-edge Big Data and Cloud technologies, primarily within AWS. This role is ideal for a strong systems integrator who is passionate about enhancing, optimizing, and increasing the robustness of existing codebases. You will be responsible for designing and implementing core architecture and capabilities for software, from initial prototypes to fully operational applications. This position offers the chance to work with a great team in a hybrid environment and compensation for qualified candidates can range from 160k to 235k, with a robust benefits package.

What You'll Do:
Function as a strong systems integrator, proactively identifying opportunities to enhance, optimize, and improve the robustness of existing codebases.
Leverage infrastructure-as-code principles and modern tools to define, build, and manage virtual infrastructure within the cloud (AWS).
Design and implement core architecture and capabilities for software projects, spanning from the prototype stage to fully operational applications.
Work autonomously to identify and solve technical problems efficiently, while aligning efforts with broader strategic goals set by Architects.

What You'll Bring:
9+ years of experience in Platform Engineering or Software Development (Python or Java) with a Bachelor's degree in a related field (MS+7, or 13 w/o degree)
Proven experience developing infrastructure within AWS.
Solid understanding of Linux systems, including hosts, networks, security principles, and applications.
Proficiency in shell scripting (Shell/Bash).
Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
Prior experience or familiarity with DISA’s Big Data Platform or other Big Data systems (e.g., Cloudera’s Distribution of Hadoop, Hortonworks Data Platform, MapR).
Hands-on experience with Kubernetes (or a vendor-specific Kubernetes distribution).
Experience implementing and utilizing CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitLab-CI, Travis-CI).
Understanding of agile software development methodologies and standard software development tool suites (e.g., JIRA, Confluence, GitHub, GitLab).
Experience with configuration management tools (Puppet, Ansible), build automation (Maven), and virtualization technologies (oVirt, Proxmox, VMware).

Please note, you must be able to obtain a Security+ certification within 60 days of hire, as directed by the customer.

Clearance Requirements
A current TS/SCI U.S. Government Security clearance is required; U.S. citizenship required.

Location
Hybrid schedule in Columbia, MD (1-2 days per week on-site).
